Romancing Mercedes

Mercedes’ seven islands are just about 30- or 45-minute banca ride from the town proper:

  • Apuao Pequeño
  • Apuao Grande
  • Canimog
  • Malasugui
  • Canton
  • Caringo
  • Quinapaquian

Among the common denominators of each island are clean white beaches, pristine blue waters, spectacular rock formations and an array of big and small fish. Varied land and seascapes distinguish one island from the next — Canimog’s centerpiece is an old lighthouse, Canton has its enigmatic cave accessible only during low tide,  Caringo and Malasugui house a fish sanctuary.

The town was originally named “Barra”, an erstwhile barangay of Daet, Camarines Norte. Its name was changed to Mercedes after Doña Mercedes, a rich woman who devoted her life of helping the community, especially the poor.

About Seeing with Brahmin eyes
My sense of humor can be keen, sarcastic, silly or corny -- sometimes all at once. I enjoy meeting new people with no preconceived ideas about what or what is not possible. You get much more out of life by being open minded and willing. I'm an easy going, good-natured person who loves life and loves people. I'm both optimistic and realistic and pretty objective when it comes to assessing situations, events, etc. In general I am a very positive person and you'll usually find we with a smile on my face.
